Sportsmanship Cup - Season 38

This section is dedicated to Official Cups. In this issue we will take a closer look at one of the oldest club cups in ManagerZone, the Sportsmanship Cup.
At the moment we are in the final stage of Season 38’s Sportsmanship Cup. The cup started with 8,991 teams. Only the best team from each group made it out of Group Play and into the final stages.
The winner of the Sportsmanship Cup not only gets bragging rights and a nice trophy, but also €150,000 in Team Money. The rest of the top 32 teams also get Team Money, starting with €25,000 for the teams who lose first in the playoff round. Teams from all over the world are participating in this tournament.

Cader’s road to the final 64

Let’s take a closer look at one participating team, Cader. This team, led by Tein competes in Uruguay’s top division, Primera Division. At the moment they are in second place of that league.

Cader made it through the Group Stage without giving up a single loss, but that doesn’t matter now. Now it all comes down to how Cader will do in the final stages of the Sportsmanship Cup.

Milan Poznań Predators vs Cader

Cader faced a Polish team named Milan Poznań Predators FC in the first knockout match of the playoff round. Cader was the favourite according to each team’s ranking, but Milan Poznań Predators FC had shown great strength during Group Play and were not to be underestimated. Cader showed an excellent combination of tactics and fighting spirit when beating the Milan Poznań Predators by a score of FC 5-0.

Cader vs Barcelona Vipers

Cader's next opponent was the Italian team, Barcelona Viper. This proved to be a big test for Cader. After 90 minutes the score was tied at 1-1. The teams went to extra time and it wasn't until the 2nd half of extra time that Cader managed to score the winning goal. This happened Victoro Sallas got the ball just outside the penalty area and shotl on the goal's right hand corner, leaving Barcelona Viper’s goalkeeper without a chance to reach the ball. With that effort Cader was through to the next round of the playoffs after an extremely close match.

Cader vs Chelski FC

The next team for Cader to play was the English team, Chelski FC. This match also proved to be a real test. Same as previous contest, this match went into extra time, with the scoretied at, 1-1 after 90 minutes. Yet again, team Cader had to fight to stay alive in extra time, and yet again the team managed to leave the battle victorious. After getting a penalty shot chance when he was tackled in the penalty area, Xaver Banzola took the shot himself and placed the ball in the net on the goalie's right hand side.

Cader vs Bisturi FC

The next team up was the Italian team, Bisturi FC. For the third time in a row, Cader managed to draw a score of 1-1 after 90 minutes. Once again it was time for Cader to play extra time, and once again they won in extra time. This time the final goal came in the 123rd minute when Xaver Banzola once again scored with a bouncing shot that fooled the goalkeeper.

Cader vs Tarabostes

Cader’s next opponent was the Moldavian team Tarabostes. Whoever won this match was guaranteed prize money so a lot was at stake. Once again the score was tied at 1-1 after 90 minutes of play. However, this time Cader didn’t manage to win in overtime. Instead Tarabostes advanced to the final 32. Despite the loss Cader made an impressive run in this season's Sportsmanship Cup.

The Final

On the 13th of September at 17.00 CET the final match will be played. Bochyn Team Zabrze will face Mazur Elk. May the best team win!
